About the role:

We are seeking a detail oriented and customer focused Payroll Officer to support the accurate and timely delivery of Council's payroll services. Reporting to the Payroll Coordinator, this role plays a key part in ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time, in compliance with relevant legislation, industrial awards, certified agreements, taxation and superannuation requirements.

The Payroll Officer provides high-level payroll processing support, assists with fortnightly and special pay runs, and maintains accurate payroll records and reporting. The role also provides full coverage for the Payroll Coordinator during planned and unplanned absences and acts as a central point of contact for payroll related enquiries from employees across Council.

  • Experience in payroll processing and administration within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in a deadline driven environment.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, local government awards, industrial relations legislation and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Well developed organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally.
  • A collaborative approach and the flexibility to provide payroll coverage and support when required.

Other Requirement

  • The preferred applicant will require a National Police Certificate upon commencement.
