Keep Essential Services Running

At MacDonnell Regional Council, our Essential Services team helps keep remote communities operating safely and reliably.

This is a practical, hands-on role maintaining water, sewerage, power-related infrastructure, generators, plant, equipment and other critical community assets.

If you have practical hands-on skills and enjoy solving problems, maintaining equipment or keeping services running, we'd love to hear from you. Formal qualifications are welcome, but they are not the only way to show you have the right skills for this role.

Why This Role Stands Out

You'll help keep essential services working by:

  • Maintaining water, sewerage and power-related infrastructure
  • Maintain and operate generators, plant, vehicles and equipment
  • Respond to faults, breakdowns, emergencies and critical service issues
  • Carry out routine inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Working with Council staff, contractors, service providers and community members

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is practical, adaptable and confident working in a remote environment.

You may have gained your skills through work, community experience, training, on-the-job learning or other hands-on roles, such as:

  • Water or Wastewater Operator
  • Bore Runner
  • Plant Operator
  • Maintenance Officer
  • Electrical, mechanical or general maintenance worker
  • Multi-skilled Operator
  • Infrastructure or Utilities Maintenance Worker
  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Someone with strong practical knowledge of tools, equipment, vehicles, pumps, generators or community infrastructure

You don't need to tick every box or hold a formal trade qualification to be considered. What matters most is your practical know-how, willingness to learn, problem-solving ability, reliability and commitment to keeping essential services running.

What Success Looks Like

To do well in this role, you'll need to:

  • Take initiative and get things done
  • Work safely and follow required procedures
  • Solve practical problems safely
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully
  • Respond to faults, emergencies and callouts when needed

What You'll Receive

In addition to a competitive salary, you'll enjoy:

  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • 12% superannuation
  • Community-based housing options for eligible candidates
  • Relocation allowances for eligible candidates
  • 3 gifted days during the Christmas shutdown
  • 12 days personal/carer's leave
  • 10 days cultural and ceremonial leave
  • Paid parental leave
  • Up to 15 days paid study leave
  • NAIDOC public holiday
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities
