About the role
Are you an organised HR professional who enjoys variety and making a difference? Join the Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) and play a key role in supporting our people through every stage of the employee lifecycle.
As our People and Wellbeing Officer you will provide professional administrative and operational support across recruitment, onboarding, employee records and HR administration. Working closely with the People and Wellbeing Coordinator and Senior Recruitment Officer, you'll help deliver efficient, compliant and customer-focused HR services that support our workforce across the Torres Strait.
What you'll be doing
- Provide HR administration across the employee lifecycle, including appointments, transfers, promotions, contract variations and separations.
- Support recruitment and onboarding activities, including preparing employment documentation and coordinating corporate inductions.
- Maintain accurate employee and position records within TechnologyOne and Council systems.
- Monitor probation periods, fixed-term contracts, salary increments, acting arrangements, licences and Blue Card renewals.
- Prepare HR correspondence, reports and employment documentation.
- Assist with audits, compliance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Respond to routine HR enquiries and provide quality customer service to managers and employees.
- Support the Senior Recruitment Officer during periods of leave.

- Experience in a Human Resources, Recruitment or Administration role.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using HR information systems (TechnologyOne experience is highly regarded).
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Other Requirement
- The preferred applicant will require a National Police Certificate upon commencement.
