About the role

Ready to put your mechanical knowledge into action?

As a Mechanical / Maintenance Assistant (Water & Wastewater), you'll work alongside an experienced Tradesperson maintaining and repairing critical water and wastewater infrastructure across the Coffs Coast.

From pumps and valves to treatment plant equipment, you'll gain exposure to a wide variety of mechanical systems while building real-world skills in fault finding, maintenance and repairs. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has recently completed (or is close to completing) their trade and is looking to grow their career in a stable, supportive environment.

This position is formally classified as a Mechanical Craftsman within Council.

What you'll be doing

  • Assist with installation, maintenance and repair of pumps, valves, pipework and treatment equipment
  • Support breakdown response and fault finding across water and wastewater assets
  • Work closely with experienced fitters and technicians to develop your skills
  • Contribute to a safe, efficient and reliable service for the community

About you

You're a motivated early-career tradesperson who is keen to learn and grow.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, gained through trade training, work experience or practical hands-on environments
  • Interest in maintenance fitting, mechanical systems or water infrastructure
  • Basic fabrication and/or welding skills (desirable)
  • Strong safety mindset and willingness to learn
  • Team player who takes initiative and pride in their work

This role is ideal for someone early in their trade career or looking to build further experience in mechanical maintenance.
