About the role

At the City of Coffs Harbour, we're planning for the future of our growing region, and we're seeking a motivated Development Assessment Officer to play a key role in delivering quality development outcomes for our community.

Working within our Development Assessment team, you'll assess a broad range of development applications and provide expert planning advice that helps balance sustainable growth, environmental stewardship and community expectations. From residential and commercial developments through to more complex proposals, you'll contribute to decisions that help shape the future of the Coffs Coast.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a planning professional who enjoys applying legislation, solving complex problems and working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Assess and determine Development Applications in accordance with NSW planning legislation.
  • Provide professional planning advice to applicants, consultants, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Facilitate high-quality development outcomes through sound assessment and decision-making.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for management and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in development pre-lodgement meetings and contribute to policy and process improvements.
  • Assist in managing post-consent requirements and compliance matters.
  • Contribute to a customer-focused, innovative and solutions-driven team culture.

About you?

You are a collaborative and customer-focused planning professional with a passion for creating positive outcomes for communities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in town planning or a related discipline.
  • A sound understanding of NSW planning legislation and development assessment processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A commitment to delivering professional, customer-focused services.
  • National Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
