The Opportunity

Maribyrnong City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Footscray Place Officer to join our Economic Development team. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the experience of everyone who lives, works, visits and invests in Footscray.

As part of our Footscray Welcome Crew, you'll be a visible and approachable Council representative, building relationships with traders, businesses, residents and visitors while helping deliver initiatives that make Footscray an even better place to be.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a visible and approachable Council presence throughout the Footscray CBD.
  • Build trusted relationships with traders, businesses, residents, visitors and community organisations.
  • Provide local information, wayfinding and practical support.
  • Identify emerging issues and coordinate referrals to the appropriate Council teams.
  • Support festivals, events, pop-up trading and other place activation initiatives.
  • Encourage shopfront improvements and activation of vacant commercial spaces.
  • Work collaboratively with businesses, creatives, property owners and community partners to bring new ideas to life.
  • Capture local insights and identify opportunities that contribute to the ongoing revitalisation of Footscray.
  • Prepare reports, maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Engage respectfully with vulnerable community members and connect them with appropriate support services where required.

About You

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and is passionate about creating great places.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in community engagement, place management, economic development, events, customer service or local government.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Confidence engaging with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Strong written communication and administrative skills.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Experience working within local government or activity centre management will be highly regarded but is not essential.
