Are you a dynamic, compassionate, and future-focused educational leader? Do you believe that character development, mental health, and academic growth go hand-in-hand?

Bishop Druitt College (BDC) is seeking an exceptional leader to step into the role of Director of Student Wellbeing (K-12) starting in the 2027 academic year. In this key leadership position, you will drive the pursuit of excellence through a collaborative, preventative, and evidence-informed approach to student care and personal development.

Set against the backdrop of the stunning, family-friendly North Coast of New South Wales, this role offers an incredible opportunity to combine professional leadership with an enviable coastal lifestyle.

About Bishop Druitt College

Bishop Druitt College is a dynamic, independent, co-educational Anglican K-12 school. We are a community of approximately 1,200 students defined by our philosophy: The Bishop Druitt Way. We aim to nurture the character of each student, strengthen community, and prepare young people to become capable, responsible, global citizens—or, as we say, "World Prepared."

While grounded in the Anglican tradition with an ethos of generosity of spirit, service, and mutual respect, BDC warmly welcomes families and staff of all backgrounds and faiths under our open philosophy: "come as you are."

The Opportunity

As the Director of Student Wellbeing (K-12), you will lead the strategic vision, design, implementation, and evaluation of our holistic wellbeing framework. Collaborating closely with the Deputy Principal, Heads of School, and your direct wellbeing teams, you will establish a clear, developmentally appropriate, and seamless progression of pastoral care from Kindergarten through to Year 12 graduation.

Supported by a 0.30 FTE teaching load, this role will be employed as a full time teacher in an ongoing capacity, with a 3 year cycle of review for the Director level position of responsibility. This teaching load allows you to remain connected to the classroom while maintaining a significant strategic presence in the College's broader operational landscape.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Strategic Wellbeing Leadership: Lead the development and mapping of a comprehensive K-12 wellbeing sequence, embedding character development, restorative practices, and rites of passage.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary student wellbeing team including Psychologists, Year Coordinators, Heads of House, the Primary Student Wellbeing Coordinator, and the Aboriginal Education Officer.
  • Behaviour & Support Frameworks: Oversee and refine the College's restorative behaviour management processes. Champion "Students of Concern" pathways to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students requiring extra support.
  • Child Safety & Compliance: Maintain a strong culture of student safety by managing child protection frameworks, mandatory reporting, and legislative compliance across the College.
  • Community & Service Programs: Drive service-learning initiatives, global connection programs (including international immersions), and lead community connection opportunities such as the "Parent Collective" information evenings.

About You

We are seeking a highly collaborative leader with a high degree of emotional intelligence, resilience, and practical wisdom.

Qualifications & Licensing:

  • Evidence of teacher education studies at a recognised Australian tertiary institution.
  • Eligible for teacher accreditation in NSW by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Experience & Attributes:

  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary teams (e.g., teachers, year coordinators, psychologists, support staff) within an educational or clinical setting.
  • Framework Design: Experience developing, sequencing, or implementing evidence-based K-12 student wellbeing or pastoral frameworks.
  • Restorative & Crisis Expertise: Background in managing complex pastoral situations, critical incidents, and implementing restorative practice frameworks. (Qualifications or a strong background in counselling, social work, or psychology are highly regarded).
  • Communication & De-escalation: Exceptional communication skills with a proven capacity to de-escalate tense situations, handle highly sensitive/confidential material, and conduct difficult yet constructive conversations.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: An alignment with and respect for the Anglican educational ethos, balanced with a deep commitment to modern, inclusive practices.

What We Offer

  • A Dynamic Professional Community: Work alongside inspiring, supportive professionals dedicated to innovation, deep learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Stunning Location: Live and work in one of Australia's most beautiful coastal regions. Enjoy pristine beaches, lush rainforests, an active outdoor lifestyle, and excellent local infrastructure without metropolitan traffic.
  • Excellent Working Conditions: Enjoy competitive salaries and conditions in line with the Independent Schools (Teachers) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025.
  • Professional Growth: Access to targeted professional learning, executive mentoring, and opportunities to lead high-impact strategic projects.
