About the Role
As our Youth Development Officer, you'll play a key role in empowering young people and strengthening connections across the Bunbury community. In this parental leave cover opportunity through to February 2027, you'll help create meaningful opportunities for young people to build skills, have their voices heard, and actively shape their community.
You'll take ownership of the coordination and delivery of youth-focused programs, initiatives, and engagement activities—ensuring they are inclusive, impactful, and responsive to the needs of young people aged 12-25.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering youth programs, initiatives, and engagement activities
- Coordinating the Youth Advisory Council, including administration, facilitation, and member development
- Developing and implementing youth engagement strategies to strengthen youth participation in Council matters
- Building strong relationships with schools, youth groups, community organisations, service providers, and other local governments
- Identifying emerging trends, opportunities, and gaps impacting young people in the community
- Supporting youth leadership development through mentoring, training, and professional development opportunities
- Creating pathways for young people to contribute to decision making and community outcomes
- Working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes for local youth
About You
You're passionate about supporting young people and creating opportunities for them to thrive. You're a strong communicator and relationship-builder who enjoys working collaboratively with diverse groups and creating programs that make a genuine impact in the community.
You'll thrive in this role if you have:
- Experience coordinating youth programs, community initiatives, or engagement activities
- Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills
- The ability to engage confidently with young people from diverse backgrounds
- Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or advisory committees
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- A proactive, community-focused mindset with a passion for youth development
