The Opportunity

The Recreation and Open Space team is responsible for the provision and strategic management of over 150 open spaces covering more than 300 hectares of land that is home to a broad range of parks, play spaces and sport and recreation facilities in City of Maribyrnong.

We are looking for an appropriately qualified and experienced Senior Open Space Planner to contribute to the work of the Council's Recreation and Open Space team.

Reporting to the Coordinator, Strategy and Policy, this role is integral to leading, supporting and coordinating the development of open space strategies, policies and plans that will provide for higher quality open spaces across the municipality.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Open Space Planner will be responsible for:

  • leading the development of strategies, plans and policies that will guide the future provision and management of Council's open space assets,
  • implementing, reviewing and renewing Council's Open Space Strategy and the prioritisation of funds collected via Open Space Developer Contributions.
  • advocating for open space and providing advice and guidance on open space planning issues across the department and organisation.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop high quality open space strategies, policies and plans.
  • Proven ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, develop creative solutions and achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine the allocation of time and resources to manage a range of complex, concurrent projects
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships within an organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in community consultation and stakeholder management.
