Manager Economic Development

Economic Development is a high priority for the City of Bunbury, with significant projects underway to support sustainable growth, investment and jobs. We are seeking an experienced and values-driven leader to manage the City's economic development portfolio and deliver outcomes that strengthen Bunbury's role as the South West's regional city.

Reporting to the Director Sustainable Development, the Manager Economic Development oversees the efficient and effective operations and service delivery of the Economic Development & Lands, Tourism and the Bunbury Wildlife Park teams. The role builds strong partnerships across government and industry, drives evidence-based programs, and supports the delivery of major projects that grow Bunbury's economy and visitor experience.

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Executive Leadership Team on matters relating to economic development.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to ensure economic development initiatives and projects are aligned with the City's strategies and plans.
  • Lead the development, delivery and regular review of the City's economic development strategy and tourism plan, ensuring alignment with broader community and corporate goals.
  • Contribute to long-term planning to ensure economic development and tourism goals align with Council priorities.
  • Use economic, market and tourism data to identify trends, risks and opportunities that inform future strategies and priorities.
  • Translate strategic goals into practical policies, programs and projects that support business growth, attract investment and enhance tourism.
  • Manage the delivery of economic development and tourism programs, including business support, investment attraction, infrastructure, advocacy and marketing.
  • Develop strategies and implement plans to maximise the sustainability and financial viability of the Bunbury Wildlife Park facility.

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering impactful economic development and tourism strategies and initiatives that have driven measurable outcomes and community prosperity.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, thinking and communication across varied contexts.
  • Demonstrated success in analysing and using data, evidence and return-on-investment measures to guide decision making.
  • Experience successfully managing resources, budgets and projects.
  • Previous staff management experience including performance management and mentoring.
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, business, planning or a relevant discipline (or equivalent demonstrated experience).
