About Us

Maribyrnong City Council is undergoing significant change arising from population growth and redevelopment. A transitioning economy is leading to an influx of new residents, businesses, and employment opportunities that is seeing Maribyrnong fast becoming a sought after residential, recreation and social destination in Melbourne's inner-west.

The Opportunity

At Maribyrnong, we believe older people are a vital part of community life, and should be able to participate fully, with equitable access to opportunities, services and spaces.

We're looking for a thoughtful and proactive Older Adults Project Officer to join our Access and Inclusion team.

This role is about strengthening connection and removing barriers supporting older people, particularly those who may be excluded, to access, engage and participate in ways that are meaningful to them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver initiatives that strengthen connection, access and participation for older people
  • Identify and respond to barriers to engagement, particularly for diverse and marginalised communities
  • Work with community groups, services and partners to improve access and inclusion
  • Support inclusive, intergenerational and intercultural approaches
  • Promote opportunities and ensure information is accessible and inclusive

  • You bring experience in community development or a similar role, with a genuine interest in supporting older people to participate fully in community life.
  • You take an evidence-based approach to your work — using data, community insight and feedback to inform decisions, design initiatives and evaluate impact.
  • You're able to identify barriers to participation and take practical steps to improve access and inclusion.
  • You build strong relationships with ease and are confident working with community members, services and partners. You're proactive, thoughtful in your approach, and able to turn ideas into action.

You're comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, contributing to shared projects and priorities across a broader department.
