The Opportunity
The Inclusive Communities Department works collaboratively to strengthen the wellbeing, participation and belonging of people across the City of Maribyrnong.
As a key member of the department's leadership team, the Coordinator Access and Inclusion plays a pivotal role in leading Council's work to build a more inclusive, equitable and accessible community. The role leads a diverse portfolio focused on disability inclusion, LGBTIQA+ inclusion, positive ageing and multicultural diversity, and works across Council and with the community to implement key organisational strategies.
This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and strategic leader who is passionate about inclusion, human rights and social justice. The role requires a strong team player who can lead a high-performing team, build strong partnerships, and translate strategy into practical initiatives that support the diverse communities of Maribyrnong.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Access and Inclusion unit and contribute as an active member of the Inclusive Communities leadership team.
- Lead initiatives that reduce barriers in physical, informational and social environments to create a more accessible and inclusive Maribyrnong.
- Lead the development and implementation of Council's key inclusion strategies and initiatives across disability, LGBTIQA+ inclusion, older people and multicultural communities.
- Embed inclusive practice across Council by providing leadership, advice and collaboration with internal teams.
- Build strong partnerships with community organisations, advocacy groups and stakeholders to support inclusive and equitable outcomes.
- Ensure programs and initiatives are grounded in principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion and social justice.
- Support and lead a high-performing team, including oversight of planning, project delivery, budgets and reporting.
