The Opportunity

Community Centres are part of Council's Inclusive Communities Department and have close links with Neighbourhood Houses and other community services operating in the municipality. They play an important role strengthening and building social capital, improving health and well-being, resilience, cohesion, connectedness, empowerment and belonging in local communities.

The Community Liaison Officers provide high quality administrative and customer service support, contributing to Council's three community centres being safe, inclusive, and welcoming places for the local community. As part of the Community Strengthening team, the Community Liaison Officers use community development principles to support diverse community members to access the centres, as well as providing a range of information on other community facilities, programs and services across the municipality.

We are looking to recruit the following positions:

  • Community Liaison Officer, Maribyrnong Community Centre (permanent, full-time);
  • Community Liaison Officer, Community Strengthening* (permanent, 0.8EFT); and
  • Community Liaison Officer, Community Strengthening* (casual)

*These roles will be located across our three community centres in Braybrook, Maidstone and Maribyrnong.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide timely and accurate administrative support as required.
  • To ensure high quality customer service is maintained and that administration tasks are completed in line with Council's and Community Centres Policy & Procedures.
  • To provide a range of information on facilities, programs and services provided throughout the Community Centres within the municipality.
  • Contribute to the Community Centres being vibrant, inclusive, active and welcoming places for all the community.
  • To contribute to a friendly and welcoming experience for all community members

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • Certificate III in Office Administration and/or relevant customer service and administration work experience.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • Required to have and maintain, at all times where required for the performance of your duties or otherwise by Council, a valid, unrestricted Working with Children Check.
  • No relevant criminal record found in a Police Check.
  • Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
  • Physically and mentally fit to undertake duties as outlined in this position description. The position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment medical check.
  • Previous experience working in an administrative environment with strong customer relations and a teamwork focus (desirable).
  • Experience within local government or similar highly regulated organisation (desirable).
