About the role
The First Nation Community Wellbeing Worker plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to access mental health and wellbeing support at the West Mental Health & Wellbeing Local, partnering with internal and external parties to ensure that First Nations clients receive safe, respectful and coordinated care. The role will also

This role will be based at our Sunshine site and will work across Brimbank, Maribyrnong and Wyndham local government areas.

Your duties include:

  • Provide culturally safe support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members
  • Provide warm referral pathways to ACCOs, Aboriginal-specific healing services, cultural programs, Elders groups, and mainstream supports
  • Provide cultural advice to staff regarding engagement, cultural protocols, cultural safety and SEWB principles
  • Strengthen partnerships with ACCOs, local Elders, cultural groups, Aboriginal health and healing services, and community networks

Our ideal candidate:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander health worker, or welfare sectors, a lived experience is highly valued
  • Strong understanding of social and emotional wellbeing, cultural identity, intergenerational trauma and healing
  • Skills in advocacy, engagement, navigation and community support
  • Strong belief and personal alignment in cohealth Values and Mission
