About the role
The AOD community mental health worker provides a harm-reduction focused support to people experiencing challenges related to alcohol and other drug use. AOD Workers collaborate with participants and their network to support recovery with culturally safe and person-led care.
The role may include outreach, centre-based, and telehealth.

Your duties include:
- Provide safe-using information, overdose prevention, and practical harm-minimisation strategies
- Conduct assessments, identify risks and Offer brief interventions using motivational interviewing and strengths-based approaches
- Assist people to navigate AOD, mental health, and social support systems
- Develop and facilitate AOD psychoeducation, harm reduction or relapse-prevention groups

Our ideal candidate:
- Tertiary qualification or Certificate IV with experience, with equivalent mixes of lived experience, industry knowledge, and training considered.
- Understanding of alcohol and other drug use from harm-reduction, recovery, and trauma-informed perspectives
- Commitment to cultural safety, inclusion, and working respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
- Lived experience of AOD use, recovery, or caring
