About Anglican Diocesan Services Overview

Anglican Diocesan Services (ADS) is the principal provider of corporate services to the ministry units and agencies of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra-Goulburn and acts the employing entity for the unincorporated associations of the Diocese.

ADS provides comprehensive services in the areas of human resources, finance, IT, property management and risk and compliance with the following objectives:

  • Provide for missional alignment across the Diocese
  • Provide Diocesan-wide consistency and standardisation within the areas of ADS while acknowledging the uniqueness and complexity of individual agencies and the services they provide to the community
  • Enable a process of continuous improvement in the provision of service standards, ensuring efficiencies across the agencies are maximised, leading to reductions in overall infrastructure costs

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Finance Officer to oversee end-to-end financial operations, compliance, and reporting. This pivotal role ensures accuracy, integrity, and timeliness across financial functions, while providing reliable insights to internal stakeholders and mentoring junior finance staff.

You'll be joining a collaborative team where your expertise will directly contribute to organisational success and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations Oversight: Lead daily financial processing, supervise junior staff, and ensure transaction accuracy.
  • Compliance & Statutory Requirements: Prepare and lodge statutory returns, manage taxation and payroll compliance.
  • Financial Reporting: Drive month-end and year-end close, prepare reconciliations, and deliver internal/external reports.
  • Trust, Fund, or Portfolio Administration: Maintain accurate records and prepare reconciliations/distributions.
  • Project & Grant Financial Administration: Track project finances, manage drawdowns, payments, and reporting.
  • Insurance & Contribution Processes: Support insurance and levy computations, prepare schedules and summaries.
  • Payments & Receivables Administration: Oversee payroll uploads, payment processing, invoicing, and debtor management.
  • Audit Support: Prepare documentation, liaise with auditors, and ensure smooth audit cycles.
  • General Financial Support: Provide insights to leadership and assist with ad hoc analysis.

Ideal Candidate

  • CA/CPA qualified, working towards certification, or intending to attain certification in the future.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting/finance (7+ years preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end processes.
  • Proficiency in compliance, statutory reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Skilled in reconciliations, journal preparation, and financial reporting.
  • Experienced in accounting, payroll, and financial systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Analytical and solution-focused, able to interpret financial data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Proven ability to supervise and mentor junior finance staff.
