Strathcona Girls Grammar, Canterbury

Strathcona Girls Grammar is seeking a skilled Educational Interpreter (Auslan) / Integration Aide to support profoundly deaf and hard of hearing students to fully access the curriculum in our Senior School. Working within the Learning Enhancement team, you will interpret between spoken English and Auslan and provide in-class support to promote participation, learning and wellbeing. This is a fixed term role with potential to become ongoing.

In this role you will:

• Provide accurate Auslan interpreting across lessons and school activities.
• Support students during independent and group work.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, the Teacher of the Deaf and families to meet students' educational, social and emotional needs.

You will bring:

• Proficiency in Auslan, a Diploma of Interpreting (Auslan) and expertise in interpreting, with NAATI Full or Provisional certification (or working towards) and sound knowledge of NAATI standards.
• Experience in an educational setting, with the capacity to build supportive relationships and enable access to the curriculum for deaf and hard of hearing students.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, strong ICT skills, knowledge of Child Safety, and an understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005.
• A current Working with Children Check; Certificate III/IV in School Based Education Support or other relevant education qualification is an advantage.
