Behaviour Support Practitioner

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our Junior School Wellbeing Team at Ballarat Clarendon College. This is an outstanding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our youngest learners.

In this role, you will work closely with a small, dedicated team to nurture the social, emotional and physical development of primary-aged students. You will help children build confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self - whether in the classroom, on the playground or within our wider school community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing social, emotional and behavioural support to students.
  • Facilitating small group programs such as friendship groups and social skills sessions.
  • Collaborating with teachers to support classroom engagement and emotional regulation.
  • Assisting with the implementation and review of Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records of student progress.
  • Liaising with parents, carers and external professionals to ensure holistic support.

Knowledge, skill and qualification requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with challenging behaviours in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and age-appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Ability to provide effective counselling and 1:1 support for children with additional wellbeing needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of child safety, mandatory reporting and wellbeing frameworks.
  • A valid Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Psychology, Social Work, Education, Disability and Developmental Education) or currently studying.
