- 9-day fortnight
- Temporary, Full Time - 4 Year contract
Kick start your career in a mechanical trade with Nambucca Valley Council. We are seeking a motivated Apprentice Mechanical Fitter to join our Water and Sewerage team.
This role offers the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain hands on experience and learn from qualified skilled tradespeople and complete your Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade.
About the role:
As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, you will assist in installation, maintenance and repair of pump machinery and other mechanical equipment essential to Council's water supply and sewerage systems. You will also gain experience in metal fabrication, welding and pipework installation, while learning to safely operate within a professional engineering environment.
Key duties include
- Assist with breakdown maintenance, inspections, testing and scheduled maintenance
- Supporting qualified electricians in building and installing switchgear, electrical machinery and instrumentation
- Learning to work with electrical control and communication equipment (including PLC's, VSD'S, telemetry units and more)
- Completing all apprenticeship training requirements, including TAFE
- Maintaining a strong focus on workplace health and safety
Requirements for the role
- A willingness and ability to undertake a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- WHS Construction Induction Card or willingness and ability to obtain prior to commencement
- First Aid Certificate, Confined Space, Working at Heights and Electrical Awareness certificate or a willingness to obtain within 6 months of commencement with Council's assistance
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Computer literacy including experience using digital/cloud-based applications
- Demonstrated application of Work Health and Safety concepts such as conducting risk assessments
