The Opportunity
Our Finance Department has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Services Accountant to join the team. Reporting to the Coordinator Financial Accounting, you will provide accounting and financial advice and support to Council staff, assist in the preparation and presentation of the management and statutory accounting organisational requirements, whilst developing and maintaining the General Ledger structure within Councils software system.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the completion of general financial reports including:
- annual and quarterly financial statements
- annual Victorian Grants Commission report
- Taxation returns (GST, FBT)
- Prepare on a quarterly basis, journal entries of allocation capital salaries to relevant projects;
- Assist in maintaining the Grant Register, producing financial reports for grant acquittal as required;
- Assist in interpreting and ensuring adherence to relevant accounting standards and legislation applicable to the finance function;
- Coordinate and complete all necessary monthly general ledger/balance sheet reconciliations and ensure that all adjustments are processed promptly;
- Coordinate the ongoing maintenance, structure and data integrity of the general ledger and Rating system as the basis of all financial information;
- Oversee the timely processing of invoices (AP/AR) and the online requisitioning process (Purchasing)
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting with practical financial accounting experience in a medium to large organisation or lesser formal qualifications with substantial financial accounting experience;
- Professional membership of Australian Society of Certified Practicing AccountantsWide ranging knowledge of and experience in interpreting and applying relevant Australian Accounting Standards and Regulations.
- Extensive understanding of financial accounting practices and principles.
- Extensive experience in undertaking financial analysis and reporting on budget variances and presenting in an easy to understand format to Managers and Coordinators.
- Well-developed verbal and written communications skills to liaise effectively with management, staff external providers and clients.
- Substantial experience in investigating, identifying and solving complex financial problems.
- Ability to effectively manage time, set priorities, so as to achieve specific and set objectives in the most efficient way possible, with in the resources available and within the required timeframe, taking into account internal and external constraints and opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook and budgeting applications. Understanding and experience of Civica Authority accounting system is desirable.
- No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
