The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Sustainability Officer to join a dynamic team, focused on building sustainable practices within Council and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to Environmental Sustainability team activities (through delivery and support) to:
- Support organising and delivery of sustainability related events and educational programs to employees and community.
- Deliver and/or support projects and actions that achieve Council's climate and sustainability objectives such as those in the Climate Emergency Strategy and other relevant strategies.
- Identify ways to support Council and the community in reducing their environmental impact.
- Develop internal and external relationships to increase the team's ability to influence others to achieve more sustainable outcomes.
- Develop communications content to promote events, services and team achievements.
- Responsible for managing and responding to community enquiries relevant to the Environmental Sustainability team.
- Attend and minute meetings, site visits and other stakeholder engagements.
- Respond to ad hoc requests as necessary to support the City Sustainability Department and Planning & Environment Services Directorate in meeting organisational and community needs.
- Ability to work occasional weekends and after hours as required. Flexibility to attend after business hours meetings as a consequence of community expectations.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
- Completion (or nearing completion) of a tertiary degree in an environmental field.
- Demonstrated experience working in an environmental-related roles including project delivery.
- Strong interest and general understanding of matters including climate change, integrated water management, waste and recycling, circular economy and air quality.
- Effective written, visual and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to gain the cooperation of others and develop networks with the general public, community groups and external authorities to achieve the requirements of the position.
- Strong customer service, organisational and time management skills.
- Experience in community engagement
- Current drivers licence
