About the role

The Mental Health Peer Cadetship is a 10-month paid employment opportunity for people with mental health lived experience who are also studying the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.

Mental Health Peer workers are individuals who identify as having a lived or living experience of mental health challenges or psychological distress, who can create a shared understanding of stigma and barriers to establish connections in working towards meaningful client goals.

The successful candidates are required to work across multiple sites such as Sunshine, Moonee Ponds, St Albans, Reservoir, Footscray, Melton and Werribee.

Your duties include:

  • Engage in and have Initiative to develop, complete learning goals and tasks as part of the program
  • Demonstrate curiosity, willingness to learn and contribute to the program
  • A willingness to draw on your own mental health challenges and draw upon your wellbeing journey to create connections with others where appropriate
  • Build and maintain respectful and dignifies peer relationships

Our ideal candidate:

  • Enrolled in Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work
  • An understanding of mental health peer work
  • Flexibility to work from various sites within Western/Northern Melbourne

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), a Working With Children Check (WWCC), complete a Pre-Employment Declaration Form, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination.

Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
