The opportunity
Are you passionate about improving road safety and making a difference in your community? Nambucca Valley Council is seeking a Community Engagement Officer (Road Safety) to lead local road safety initiatives in partnership with Transport for NSW. This dynamic role offers an opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to help reduce road trauma and create a safer environment for all road users.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement evidence-based road safety projects as per the Local Government Road Safety Program (LGRSP) guidelines.
- Facilitate community engagement activities to promote road safety initiatives, fostering partnerships and encouraging community participation.
- Develop and manage Nambucca Valley Council's Local Road Safety Action Plans in alignment with the Safe System approach.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, businesses, and state government agencies to promote and deliver road safety messages.
- Investigate and respond to community road safety concerns and inquiries, including driver behaviour and road-related service requests.
- Manage road safety capital projects, from grant submissions through to implementation.
- Produce road safety content for Council's website, social media, and external communication channels.
- Assist in the general administration of the Local Traffic Committee and ensure compliance with reporting, monitoring, and evaluation requirements.
Who are we looking for?
Essential requirements include:
- Relevant degree level qualifications and/or equivalent experience in community engagement, education, and/or communications.
- Proven ability to consult, network, and identify local road safety needs with key agencies and stakeholders.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating community programs aligned with funding objectives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences.
- Ability to represent Council in various forums and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Current driver licence
