Nambucca Valley Council is seeking a Trainee Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Officer to join our Engineering Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in GIS while receiving Council-supported training to gain a Certificate IV in Spatial Information Services and develop your career.
About the Role
As a Trainee GIS Officer, you will assist our Senior GIS Officers in creating, maintaining, and managing Council's spatial datasets. You will also support the wider Assets team with various tasks, ensuring accurate data and effective mapping solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Create, maintain, and analyse spatial datasets
- Generate digital and hardcopy maps
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of spatial data
- Operate GIS software, including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise
- Maintain Council's property, road, water, and sewer datasets
- Assist with field surveys and asset data collection
- Provide first-level support for GIS software users
- Assist in GIS-related projects for the Engineering and Environmental Services departments
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has an interest in maths, science, engineering, or IT and enjoys working with computers and technology
- Is eager to learn and undertake a Council-supported training program
- Has strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Works well in a team environment and has good communication skills
- Has a valid driver's licence
- Resides in the Nambucca Valley Council area
