Join our Statutory Planning team and make a meaningful impact on the development of Nillumbik Shire. As Statutory Planner you will provide effective, accurate and timely advice to all participants in the planning application process as part of the delivery of a successful planning approvals system.
What a typical day will look like;
- Provide effective, accurate and timely advice to all participants in the planning application process as part of the delivery of a successful planning approvals system.
- Contribute to the efficient and coordinated delivery of planning approvals services in Nillumbik.
- Provide consistent and prompt technical guidance to customers, staff, and Councillors on interpreting the planning scheme and relevant legislation.
- Interpret and apply planning schemes, policies, legislation and regulations effectively.
- Assess planning proposals and prepare clear, accurate reports and correspondence on planning issues, ranging from less complex to medium complexity applications, in accordance with Council-approved delegation instruments.
- Enforce planning legislation, Council policies, and related requirements.
- Effectively present in public forums.
- Assist in drafting legal agreements and other necessary documentation.
What you will bring to the role;
- A tertiary qualification in town planning or equivalent related discipline, and/or relevant experience in local government planning
- A good understanding of Planning and Environment Act and planning processes.
- Well-developed computer literacy and keyboard skills and ability to utilise application management and tracking computer software.
- Ability to work collaboratively and assist in the analysis of processes and to contribute to the identification of improvements.
- The ability to manage time and set priorities of own work to achieve objectives in the most efficient way possible within the resources available and set timetable.
- Ability to provide effective professional customer service to a diverse range of clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively on a range of matters, including explanation of planning controls and processes to customers, including members of the community, Council officers, Government Departments and Councillors.
