About the Role

This role supports HRCC's systems of rules, principles and practices that determine how we operate and align with the best interests of our community as well as local government and legislative acts and requirements. The position reports to the Manager, Governance & Information and is a key leadership role within the Corporate Services Division. The focus of the position is to:

  • deliver and embed highly effective systems of governance, risk management, integrity and transparency across all business units of Council
  • ensure the achievement of best practice standards and compliance with all legislative, regulatory and corporate reporting obligations while also effectively and efficiently administering Council's property portfolio; and
  • provide outstanding leadership and technical expertise to the Governance and Property team members.

About You

Serving our community in the most efficient and effective way is important to us at HRCC. Having effective Council governance, policy, risk, procurement, property and corporate reporting functions and frameworks are essential enablers of this. You will have exemplary business partnering skills with previous success in driving best practise and capability uplift across these areas within the business. You're a methodical and analytical thinker who can work through complex problems with your key stakeholder to achieve alignment with business and corporate governance outcomes.

You have well developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to chameleon your approach to meet the needs of your audience which range from your direct reports, internal leaders, external regulatory bodies, solicitors, real estate agents, valuers, consultants and the community in relation to property matters. You have demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with legal, property and corporate governance matters.

If you have:

  • Qualifications and experience in law, local government, business administration or related discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting the formulation of strategy and direction, and a sound background in corporate governance
  • Strong stakeholder management, organisation and negotiation skills
  • A high level of attention to detail in providing consistently accurate technical advice and high quality reporting
  • Great personal leadership, people and communication skills; and
  • A passion for continuous improvement and customer-focused service delivery.
