Local Studies Officer

About the role

The Local Studies Officer plays a key role in connecting the City's libraries and Yarrila Arts Museum (YAM) customers with the history and heritage of the City by facilitating access to collections, research and programs to celebrate the City.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the local studies collection, in acquiring both physical and digital resources and provide specialist support to the Cultural services staff in the identification and use of these resources and assist customers with complex enquiries.

About you?

If you are adept in the knowledge of reference resources, including advance online database and internet search skills and ability to handle complex enquiries of a complex nature and communicate at a high level with varying degree of internal and external stakeholder, this may your ideal role.

Essential qualifications required for the position.

  • Degree/Graduate Diploma in Library/Information Science/Archives/Gallery/Museum Studies or in progress/equivalent
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills including report writing and knowledge of local history resources
  • Experience in managing local history collections both physical and digital in a public environment
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Current Working with Childrens' Check.
