The Role
As our Safety and Wellbeing Officer, you will:
- Drive a culture of safety and wellbeing across all TSIRC workplaces.
- Provide expert advice to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) legislation.
- Conduct safety audits, manage incident investigations, and implement best-practice solutions.
- Support injured employees through effective case management and return-to-work programs.
- Facilitate training, communicate legislative updates, and champion Council's safety-first approach.
This role requires regular travel across the Torres Strait Islands and to Cairns, offering you the chance to experience the beauty and unique culture of the region.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in WHS, supported by a Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety (or working towards it).
- Knowledge of rehabilitation systems and return-to-work programs (certification is a bonus).
- Proven ability to conduct audits, deliver training, and manage WHS initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- A current Queensland Driver's Licence.
Knowledge of Torres Strait languages (Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya, or Creole) is required.

Other Requirements
- The preferred applicant may need a National Police Certificate.
- Immunisations may be required for certain travel-related health risks.
