Communications and Campaigns Organiser (Fixed-Term contract)

The National Tertiary Education Union (NSW) is looking for a highly motivated individual to help grow our digital-to-field organising capacity and drive engagement with union campaigns and communication. The position is full-time and offered as a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026.
You will have responsibility for working with field organisers, union reps and activists on all aspects of digital organising and communications for the Union:
- Advising on strategies to increase the reach of union communications and generation of engagement with traditional organising strategies.
- Developing and implementing digital list building and data management tools and strategies to drive engagement towards traditional organising.
- Overseeing digital design and production for social media and web content.
Based in our Surry Hills office, you will work with industrial and organising staff and branch activists in metropolitan and regional NSW and may occasionally travel to regional campuses.

Essential criteria
- Demonstrated ability to lead a small team and provide strategic advice and support
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital-to-field organising strategies and tools
- Demonstrated knowledge of driving campaign engagement using digital marketing tools
- Experience in a communications role in a trade union or progressive campaigning organisation.
- Ability to convey complex messages sharply and succinctly in plain language.
- Commitment to trade union principles
Desirable criteria
- Website development experience using WordPress.
- Digital engagement experience using Mailchimp and/or Action Network.
- Experience developing content for and managing social media accounts.
- Knowledge of the higher education sector
- Commitment to trade union principles
What's on offer
Salary for the position will be in the range of $108,828 - $136,349 per annum depending on skills and experience. All other employment conditions are contained in the NTEU National Staff Agreement.
